The Path

New website for The Path
Tale of Tales just put up a new website for their upcoming horror game, The Path. It is very cool looking and has so much atmosphere to it, you should check it out.
The Path will be launched on the 18th of March, and according to the post on their blog should be available from multiple download sites such as Steam and Direct2Drive, as well as their own website.
Tale of Tales are the developers of various art games such as The Endless Forest and The Graveyard. The latter of which got some buzz on the internet for being a short form art game that most people (myself included I must admit) said did not qualify as a game. It had pretty nice music though and I did enjoy watching my girlfriend play through it.
After going through their website a bit more and playing a few more games like Passage and so on, I realise that even if they do not make traditional games, or even art games informed by their ludic qualities first before anything else, what they do do is very important in the ongoing growth of videogames and interactive entertainment in general.
Plus, the artwork and visual design of all of their projects is just too beautiful to ignore. I mean, look at these -

How many games can you say have art as awesome as this?
In addition to their art however, is the fact that they are coming at videogame development from a completely different idea pool from the majority of developers working today. I was so disappointed that my expectations of the upcoming Dante’s Inferno game based on the section of The Divine Comedy of the same name were fulfilled completely by the game being nothing more than a God of War-style action-adventure brawler.
With quotes from the poem.
Now, I have nothing against games like this, and I salivated just as much as the next gamer when I saw the new God of War 3 trailer, but that cannot be all we can make right? Right? Right.
Anyway, The Path looks really interesting actually and seems to be more of a game than their previous work. I will probably be picking it up come release day as long as my wallet survives an imminent attack by the Street Fighter IV collector’s box and Mad Catz Fighting pads ><. I urge you to have a look at the various websites for it and also check out this preview over on IGN.
